Discover the Many Acai Berry Benefits
It has been called “Natures perfect food” - according to the U.S. Health Sciences Institute, it’s been talked about on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and is recognized globally as an incredibly powerful and natural substance. There are many acai berry benefits, from protecting against diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and premature aging, to maintaining a healthy digestive track, and providing an abundance of energy.
The acai berry is a distinctive purple berry that looks much like a grape, but has a pit almost like a cherry. It is indigenous to the Amazon rain forest, and because of the swamp-like and high altitude regions in which it grows, the acai plant has incorporated some great benefits both in its fruit, and for human consumption. Because of its surrounding environment, the acai plant has been forced to acclimatizeby becoming tougher to protect itself against sun damage, and also the lack of oxygen. The way in which it has become more resilient, is in creating antioxidants to protect its fruit (this is a huge benefit for us as humans, and another great acai berry benefit.) The environmental conditions also forced the plant to grow a large, and intricate root system (this is also a benefit to us, as it allows the plant to obtain more oxygen, and rich nutrients from the soil.)
Antioxidants
The high antioxidant properties of the acai berry are what make this fruit so special. Acai berry benefits humans by the antioxidants that it contains, and that help us to prevent diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and premature aging. The reason that the body needs these antioxidants is of a very important nature.

The human body is subject to “a beating” because it is exposed to what are called free radicals on a consistent basis. Free radicals are essentially particles in our atmosphere that hold a charge. This means that they are not stable, (and if you know anything about chemistry, this means that they are on a mission to correct their state, and become stable.) In order to do this, these free radicals, are trying to “steal” a proton or electron to correct its instability. These particles bombard our cells, and try to take what they need, but in doing so they leave the cells of our body in an unstable state which is damaging to our cells. This damage is also known as aging or perhaps the cause of many other degenerative diseases, and in theory is what can cause our cells to become damaged, and replicate (which is cancer.)
This is where antioxidants come into play. Acai berry benefits us because it has twice the amount of antioxidants than blueberries, among many other amazing benefits, and its antioxidants are what our bodies need to prevent this damage. The way that antioxidants work, is that they enter the body, and “join up” with the free radicals. They give the free radical the charge that its missing, and prevent it from stealing from the body’s cells. The antioxidant is unlike the free radical, in that it doesn’t mind being unstable.
There is much scientific evidence as to the benefits of antioxidants in our diet. Thus acai berry benefits are completely invaluable, and hold tremendous hope for healing, and disease prevention.
